An interview with a US college and an interview connected to an F-1 student visa may both include questions about study plans. They belong to different processes. Knowing which organisation is asking the questions helps you prepare the right information.
The college considers admission
A college may use an interview to learn about academic interests, previous experience and fit with a program. The college sets its own admissions criteria and decides whether to offer a place. Look at that institution's instructions for the format and topics of its interview.
The visa process follows its own rules
The US Department of State explains student visa categories and application steps. An applicant usually needs acceptance by a school approved for the relevant student category before moving through the visa process. The school-issued Form I-20 is part of that process, but an admission offer or college interview does not itself decide a visa application.
Use accurate course details in both settings
Be ready to describe the actual institution, program and reasons for your choice in your own words. Check the school's information and the current government instructions, and keep the college's admissions requests separate from the consular application instructions.
